About FireWind Massage

The Nitty Gritty... about the Practitioner

I am licensed and fully insured to practice Massage Therapy in the State of Colorado since 2018. I am a graduate of Healing Arts Institute in Fort Collins that exclusively taught the Body Insight method of bodywork. My bodywork style has also developed from my long study of Qigong Massage, martial arts, TCM theory and Experience. My main professional background has been in sports injury and occupational medicine. I am a Certified Member of Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals and abide by their strict code of Ethics.

Building Relationships

You can best harvest the benefits of massage if it becomes a regular part of your life. My goal is for us to work together to take better care of your long-term health. If this means coordinating with your Physical Therapist or Physician I will do just that.

Sharing Knowledge

Communication is key. I need to know what you're feeling, experiencing and what you're looking to gain in order to best help you. In turn, I will explain the treatment and what you can expect to gain from it.

How I Differ

Massage is a tool to help heal. Whether it's stress, recovery or simply to pamper yourself, the benefits of massage can be life changing. I would be honored to take that journey with you. I am a evidence-based Independent Therapist, so things can work differently than the fast food Day Spa experience. Here's what that means to you:

  • Social distancing is still in place. All appointments are still arranged so there is no overlap. You will not to worry about running into someone leaving as you arrive.
  • I  listen. There is no rushing from client to client. I take the time to really understand what's bothering you and use this information to help facilitate long-term relief.
  • Each massage is focused and effective.
  • I am experienced in making people feel better.
  • There is no high pressure sales for memberships.
  • We develop a Wellness Plan as needed together. This can include complementary care that you can do at home that could include stretching, strengthening, ice/heat etc.

Modalities I Use

Below are brief desciptions of the main modalities I use during treatments. (Not really listed in any particular order of preference.) This list is by means exhaustive and there is some overlap between some of the techniques themselves. Everyone's needs are different and techniques are combined to achieve the best result.

Myofascial Release

Myofascial release involves moving the skin and underlying tissues in a focused, slow and deliberate manner. Myofascial release is useful for treating skeletal muscle immobility and pain by relaxing contracted muscles that improves blood and lymphatic circulation, and stimulates the stretch reflex in muscles.

Myofascial release helps decrease pain by releasing trigger points, muscular adhesions and improves circulation in the tissue. One overall benefit of myofascial release is decreased tension in the fascial layers.

Some of the benefits of myofascial release are:

  • Reduced pain.
  • Decreased fascial tension.
  • Increased range of movement.

Neuromuscular

This treatment specifically targets muscle pain, dysfunction, and injury. Some of the common conditions that benefit include low back pain, neck pain, headaches/migraines, and hip and leg pain.  Unlike Deep Tissue it does not mean painful pressure. Neuromuscular Therapy is used to lengthen muscles and reestablish their neuro pathways. This approach is beneficial for anyone  experiencing pain, stress and needing recovery.

Swedish Massage

Swedish massage is the most common bodywork modality. Often called the classic massage, Swedish massage promotes relaxation by releasing muscle tension. Swedish massage should not be confused with deep tissue massage. Deep Tissue is a technique, Swedish is gentler than deep tissue massage and better suited for those interested in relaxation, relieve sore muscles and looking to de-stress.

A Swedish massage relaxes the entire body by using long, gliding strokes in the direction of blood returning to the heart. Don't dismiss the simplicity of Swedish massage because its benefits go beyond relaxation. It can help increase the level of oxygen in the blood and improve circulation and flexibility. Swedish is also the foundation where most massage in the west begins because it is efficient in warming up tissue for more profound work.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep Tissue is often confused with classic Swedish massage. This is incorrect, Deep Tissue is a technique and most often used within a full body massage in a spa setting.  Deep Tissue Massage is described on the menus of most day spas and other massage joints as deep pressure to differentiate it from the lighter Swedish Massage techniques. For Deep Tissue Massage the Therapist works the muscle tissue by applying heavy pressure to access deeper layers of tissue.

Yet Deep Tissue doesn’t always mean heavy pressure or pain. I utilize techniques that allows access and release of the deeper, more stubborn layers of muscle tissue.

Sports Massage

This treatment is based on Russian methods and is for post and pre-event tissue recovery using friction, flushing, kneading and stretching. There can be therapeutic emphasis on areas of injury, but is generally not combined with deep tissue which can have a short term detrimental effect on muscle performance for those in training.  Customized to the client's unique needs using other treatments as required if outside the competiton season.

Hot Stone

Hot Stone Massage is often paired with Swedish or Russian Sports Massage. Stones are heated and used with oils to soothe, warm, and massage your muscles. The hot stones in my treatment are used as active massage tools causing muscles profound release of tension and stress. Not to be confused with a passive spa treatment.

Therapeutic Massage Cupping

Therapeutic Massage Cupping is a powerful modality for creating wellness and balance within the body. Using specialized massage cups and a gentle vacuum suction, tissues are lifted increasing circulation of blood and lymph, reducing pain, and gently pulling away old adhesions.

Massage Cupping assists in:

  • relaxation
  • flushing the lymphatic system
  • scar reduction
  • cellulite reduction among other benefits

Therapeutic Lymphatic Cupping

Partial or full body lymphatic clearing with gentle and flowing cupping technique that supports the natural movement of the lymphatic system improving cellular health, and can also help improve the body's immune system. Great after surgeries for improving recovery with physicians approval.

Not for post-liposuction. If you have Lymphedema (swelling due to build-up of lymph fluid in the body) this needs a release from your physician before treatment can occur.

If you are undergoing chemo or have a cancer diagnosis you will need a physicians release.

Therapeutic Face Cupping

Specialized Lymphatic Face Cupping is an exciting and little known modality that greatly improves temporal headaches, TMJ disorder and chronic sinus issues. From a beauty standpoint it increases circulation which in turn reduces fine wrinkles and decreases puffiness; making your face glow again.

Face cupping massage technique increases oxygen-rich blood circulation, strengthens skin and connective tissues, stimulates cells responsible for collagen production, relaxes muscle tension which also brightens skin. Tone chin, jawline & neck.

Procedure takes 20-30 minutes.

Specialized glass cups are used so no marks.

Not to confused with a facial, no chemicals are applied or needed.

If you are undergoing chemo or have a cancer diagnosis you will need a physicians release.

Hikaze or FireWind Shiatsu

A group of proprietory Trigger Point treatment techniques that removes or radically diminishes sensitive and painful trigger points after just one session without excessive painful pressure or lengthy application. Developed from my long study of Qigong Massage, TCM theory and Experience. Truly revolutionary.

(I am not accepting students at this time.)
